Sergeant Andrew Jerel Melton
June 4, 1988 – September 5, 2019
SGT Andrew Jerel Melton, born June 4, 1988 in Pinehurst, North Carolina, entered his heavenly home on Thursday, September 5, 2019 in Greensboro, NC. Affectionately known as “Drew”, he was a beloved father, son, brother, uncle, and friend to many.
Drew graduated from Red Springs High School in 2006 and joined the Army National Guard shortly after. He was deployed in April 2009 where he served in the Army during Operation Iraq Freedom. During his tenure with the military, he earned several medals. Prior to his honorable discharge in November 2017, Drew became employed with the United States Postal Service as a lead clerk. Drew loved video gaming, playing volleyball, fishing, and cars, but the apple of his eye was his daughter, whom he called “Ally”.
Drew leaves behind to cherish his memory with his daughter, Allison Brianna Melton of Red Springs, NC; his parents, David Ray and Debra Efird Melton of Greensboro, NC; a sister, Jacqueline (Jeremy) Carthen of Red Springs, NC; four nieces, Jazlyn Jones, Ja’Meria Smith-Carthen, Journey Carthen, and Jaycee Carthen; a nephew, Javion Carthen; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends and family members.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 5:30 PM Thursday September 12, 2019 at Triad Cremation & Funeral Service Chapel 2110 Veasley Street Greensboro NC 27407. A funeral service with full military honors will be held at 12:00 PM Friday September 13, 2019 at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery 8220 Bragg BLVD Fort Bragg North Carolina 28390.
