Bobby Thomas Harris

March 8, 1939 ~ January 6, 2020 (age 80)


Bobby Thomas Harris gave up time for eternity Monday January 6, 2020 at the Greensboro Hospital in Greensboro, NC. He was born March 8, 1939 in Norwood, NC 281128.

Bobby was the son of the late Leroy Harris Sr. (Grelie) and Virginia Horne Harris.

He accepted Christ at an early age and joined East Macedonia Baptist Church, Norwood, NC.

He worked as a fixer at Collins and Aikman in Norwood, NC, Wilson Farm and Supply as a delivery man, he worked at Jeffery's Manufactory in Albemarle, NC as a supervisor.

He graduated from the Historic Kingsville High School in 1958, in Albemarle, NC.

He was a sports fanatic. He excelled in football and baseball. He was chosen by the baseball scouts, to try out in Florida for the position of short-stop. He did well but chose to return home.

He was an Army Veteran, he received an honorable discharge after four years of service, stationed in Germany. Discharged February 11th, 1964. He was the first black man to be in charge of a Platoon at the Albemarle Armory in Albemarle, NC. He was also in Active Army Reserve.

Those who preceded Bobby in death in addition to his parents, are siblings: Leroy Jr. Herman, Cleveland, Norman, Carl, Sherman and Ceretha.

Bobby, was an exceptional man who gave of his electrical skills and building skills to others. Family who will miss him dearly are: a son Bobby Lee Harris, Norwood, NC, daughter Misty RIchardson, Greensboro, NC. In addition he leaves to mourn (6) grandchildren, (4) sister-in-laws, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

A Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. - 2:00 P.M. with a Service to follow at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at Triad Cremation & Funeral Service 2110 Veasley St. Greensboro, NC.
