Joan Kern Clark

December 8, 1931 ~ December 27, 2018 (age 87)

Joan Kern Clark, affectionately known as “Muner”, 87, died Thursday,
December 27, 2018 in Greensboro, NC. Joan was born December 8, 1931 in
Ether, NC to the late Clyde Jennings Kern, Sr. and Hessie Freeman Kern. A
brother, Clyde J. Kern, Jr. also predeceased her. A family memorial service
was held on January 2, 2019 at West Market United Methodist Church where
she was a member. She was inurned into the church columbarium on January 6,
2019. Triad Cremation and Funeral Services has been assisting the family.

Joan grew up in Star, NC where she was employed by Russell Hosiery Mill.
She moved to Greensboro in 1961 to help her father start CJ Kern,
Contractor, Inc. where she worked until it closed in 1998. She served as
secretary and treasurer and as the company bookkeeper. After retirement,
Joan worked part time for Milton Kern & Co. until the age of 76 and later
co-owned and operated Vernon Park Antiques in downtown Greensboro.

Joan was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star and The Junior Women's
Club of Star. She was a charter member of The National Association of Women
in Construction and served on the board for many years. She was an avid
member of Democratic Women where she served in many different capacities.
Her volunteer work included March of Dimes, Triad Health Project, and
Downtown Greensboro, Inc. and served as a host family for the Greensboro
Monarchs.

Joan’s love of cooking and entertaining was appreciated by her family and
friends and her Christmas Eve parties were legendary! She found her
greatest joy, however, in spending time spoiling her grandchildren and
great grandchildren.

Joan is survived by daughters Maria Brown Dolan of Greensboro, Jen Brown
Dunn (Ray) of Franklinville, and Sally Clark of Greensboro, grandchildren
Jacob Haislip (Becki), Hessie Lawyer (Chris), Charles Walker, all of
Greensboro and PJ Dunn of Oak Ridge, nine great grandchildren, sisters
Hilda Kivett of Greensboro and Billie Phillips of Seven Lakes, and brother
Milton Kern of Greensboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Humane
Society of the Piedmont, Randolph County SPCA or West Market Street United
Methodist Church.
