Wayne Hawks

June 27, 1940 ~ May 12, 2019 (age 78)

"But thou, O man of God, ... follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, where unto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses." 1 Timothy 6:11-12 (KJV)

Wayne Spencer Hawks, 78, peacefully became a member of his forever  family on Sunday, May 12th, Mother's Day morning. Jesus took his hands and led him through the valley of the shadow of death with no fear and no pain, only peace and gladness. We are sure he was welcomed by his mother, Leota, with a smile and a big hug. His mother-in-law, Leona, was there to greet him also. With so many loved ones already in heaven, including his father, Dean Roscoe and his older brother, Leroy, those of us left behind can only shed tears of joy thinking about that grand family reunion celebration with our Savior sitting at the head of the banquet table where lots of burnt hot dogs are being served with very hot coffee at dessert time.

Wayne will be missed by Angie, his wife of almost 52 years; his sons, Dean and Chad; daughter, Tammy and his sister Norma.

During his life span Wayne held several jobs but the one he was most proud of was being able to sa he worked for the Greensboro Police Department serving as the school cross guard for Bluford Elementary School. He loved the children and they loved him especially on Fridays when Wayne always gave them candy. Wayne loved candy especially sugar daddies. Strangers passing by the school became friends who often stopped by to give Wayne a hot cup of coffee and a doughnut.

Wayne believed that as a Christian he should faithfully serve in the church and in the community. He was proud to be a charter member of River of Life Church where he faithfully served in various capacities over the years. He also ministered in several nursing homes.

Memorial contributions can be made to River of Life Impact Life Center or Hospice of the Piedmont. The family would especially like to thank Stephanie Hiatt, our Hospice nurse, who guided us with a professional skill that was complemented with compassion and a sincere Christian love during the past 5 months.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 PM Sunday May 19, 2019 at River of Life Church 4914 Liberty Road NC Greensboro NC 27406. The family ask that flowers and gifts be sent to the residence 5229 Woody Lane Greensboro NC 27406. Cremation arrangements entrusted to Triad Cremation & Funeral Service of Greensboro, NC.

Rejoice, and be exceeding glad; for great is your reward in heaven:....Matthew 5:12a (KJV)
