Obituary

Amy Susan Alexander passed away unexpectedly in her sleep at home in Graham, NC on May 19, 2020 at the age of 66. Amy is preceded in death by her parents, Irvin and Elinor Fisher; sister, Ronalee Gray; son, Joshua; and daughter, Laura.  Amy is survived by her loving husband, Loren Eliot Alexander, of 41 years; her brother, Ken Fisher and sister, Nancy Burris.  Amy is also remembered by her son, Casey Alexander of New York; son, Scott Alexander and wife Erica of Raleigh; and son, Ryan Alexander of New York.  As well as her three grandchildren Owen Knobel, Elinda Alexander and Calum Alexander.

Amy was born in Sioux City, Iowa. Shortly after she moved to Pennsylvania and then to New York.  Amy lived most of her life in the Central New York Area.  She attended Tompkins Cortland Communtity College where she studied to become a registered nurse. After moving with her family to North Carolina, she studied at UNC Chapel Hill, receiving her Master’s Degree in Nursing Administration.  She spent most of her career working at UNC Hospital.  For nine years she also worked at Carol Woods Retirement Community in Chapel Hill as the Director of Nursing.

Amy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.  She was a gentle yet strong person and loved caring for others, and built families and communities of people wherever she went. She was a lifelong animal lover and caretaker of many rescues and strays. She and her husband, Loren, have spent the past few years traveling in their spare time, making memories some of us could only dream of.  She will be missed and her absence will be felt deeply by all of those who loved her.

A celebration of life will be held outside, at Loren and Amy’s home on Saturday, May 23, 2020.  You may stop by any time from 11-6 at 1017 Camelot Lane, Graham.  (We ask everyone to wear masks if possible and respect social distancing measures.)

A second celebration and graveside service will be held in central New York at a later date to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Judes Children’s Hospital or Sparkle Cat Rescue in her memory. Arrangements entrusted to Triad Cremation & Funeral Service of Greensboro NC.
