David LoPresti was born on December 15, 1953 in Jamestown, New York. He passed away at home, surrounded by his family, on October 19,2019 after a 15 month battle with Glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. Dave was the son of the late Charles and Carmella (Palumbo) LoPresti. He shared his life with his wife of 44 years, Joan (Cristelli) LoPresti, daughters Julia (LoPresti) Trotto, Krista (LoPresti) Zevada, son-in-laws Christopher L. Trotto, Sergio Zevada, grandchildren Christopher and Avery, siblings Tancred LoPresti (Theresa), Charlene (LoPresti) Doolittle (Allen), Dante LoPresti, many nieces and nephews, cousins, along with many friends.
Dave grew up in Niagara Falls, moved to Buffalo area suburbs where he and Joan raised their daughters, and then finally, Greensboro, North Carolina. He attended LaSalle Senior High School, graduated from Buffalo State College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology; St. Bonaventure University with a Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership and Executive Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership from Duke University. Dave was also trained in Six Sigma and Lean.
Prior to attending college, Dave worked as a cook at The Georgian House of Pancakes and Howard Johnson’s; and a laborer at Carborundum in Niagara Falls, New York. He utilized his education and had outstanding careers at Buffalo Forge, SiHi Pumps, The Elizabeth Pierce Olmsted For The Visually Impaired, IFB Solutions in Winston-Salem, NC , RLCB in Raleigh, NC and Industries of The Blind In Greensboro, North Carolina.
Dave’s love of learning and challenging himself included becoming talented at billiards/pool. He was true teammate and lover of playing an honest game. Dave’s way of celebrating a difficult play was unique, just like Dave!
Dave was a handy man, if he couldn’t fix it, it wasn’t broken. His natural talent for handy work quickly turned him into an excellent craftsman. Dave leaves behind many handmade treasures that his family will always cherish.
On Sundays, Dave could be found in his kitchen making homemade pizza or pasta, beer and wine. For him, it was all about the details. He spent years perfecting the art making pepperoni, cheese, sauce and of course, his famous pizza dough. Dave’s greatest wish was that these traditions would be carried on by his family. He spent his last weeks instructing and encouraging his family to recreate his recipes.
Dave was a family man, the epitome of a good husband, neighbor, leader and friend. He was the best dad ever! He believed anything was possible with enough passion, practice, and patience. Dave’s life is a legacy that lives on in his family and wide circle of friends. This legacy will be evident on Sundays, where his recipies and traditions of gathering around the table will nourish the souls of his family & friends for years to come.
