James Richard Hutcherson died Wednesday, June 17, 2020, following a brief period of hospice. Mr. Hutcherson, who was 83 years old, died peacefully at his home in Winston Salem.
He leaves his daughters, Lucy and Leslie Hutcherson; sister Nancy Lauzier; son-in-laws Kevin Higgins and Jeffrey Skibins; grandchildren Faith, Ethan, and Zoe Skibins; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Hutcherson’s wife of 50 years, Barbara Lynn (Hobbs) Hutcherson, predeceased him by 12 years. He was also predeceased by his brother, Roy Hutcherson.
Born and raised in Amonate, Virginia, on June 14, 1937, Mr. Hutcherson was the son of Roy and Anne Hutcherson. He graduated from Big Creek High School in 1955, where he met his future wife. They were married at the United Methodist church in Amonate in August of 1957 and were married for 50 years.
Mr. Hutcherson, a U.S. Army Veteran, worked for a short time for the Federal Bureau of Investigation before embarking on a long career with the F.W. Woolworth Company and retiring as Vice President.
He enjoyed a long retirement and relished spending time with his children, grandchildren, and extended family.
