John Phillip May of Greensboro, aged 55, died unexpectedly on January 5, 2021.
John was born on September 19, 1965 to Sonny May and Rachel Byrley May. He was originally from Julian, NC. John was the second of four children and was always with his sister Kim. Whenever you saw one, you saw the other. He graduated from Southeast Guilford High School and went on to have a career as a carpenter. He was very talented and built homes, did renovations and built custom cabinets. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and built birdhouses in his spare time.
He was preceded in death by his father, Sonny May, a farmer, and his mother, Rachel Lee Byrley May, a seamstress; uncles Mitchell, Howard, Dillard, Pete and Carl May, and Clarence Byrley; aunts Ethel May Shoe, Edna May Shoe, Esther May Daniels, Verona May Ward and Ruth Marie Byrley Vinson.
He is survived by his brothers, Kenneth David May of Randleman, Richard Milhouse May of Julian; a sister, Kimberly Dawn May Phillips (David) of Julian; nephew James Derek Phillips of Whitsett and niece Katie Lea Phillips of Julian and great nephew john Delbert Phillips. He had two step-children, Ashley Townsend and Josh Clemons of Greensboro and three grandchildren, Brianna, Logan and Harley Townsend. He is also survived by his aunt, Mary Frances Byrley McCann and uncle David Byrley as well as many cousins.
Due to COVID-19, a private memorial service will be held at a later time. Triad Cremation and Funeral Service is assisting the family.
