Ronnie Steven Lucas, 69, was called to Heaven during the late hours of Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at Maple Grove Health and Rehabilitation Center in Greensboro, NC.
Ronnie was a native of Spotsylvania, VA and a graduate of John J. Wright Consolidated School where he was active in sports and the band. After his graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. During his enlistment, Ronnie traveled around the world, developing his expertise in jet mechanics and electrical light field equipment maintenance during the Vietnam War era.
After a serious motorcycle accident in California, which left him with complications of traumatic brain injury, he was relocated to Greensboro, NC in the care of his sister Cheryl and her family. During his residence in Greensboro, one of Ronnie’s favorite pastimes was playing (and beating) his family and friends in the game of dominoes. During the years in which he was mobile, he enjoyed the outdoors and would walk around Greensboro for hours.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents – L. Reginald Lucas and Frances W. Lucas, of Spotsylvania, VA; his birth mother, Grace Cunningham of Fredericksburg, VA; his older brother, Reggie D. Lucas, Sr of Fredericksburg, VA/Columbus, OH; and his nephew, Reggie D. Lucas Jr of Columbus, OH.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted sister Cheryl Lucas Hepburn (Marty Hepburn Sr), Greensboro, NC; niece, Jasmine Hepburn, Raleigh, NC; nephew, Marty Hepburn, Jr, Greensboro, NC. Special cousin, Shirley (James) Hill of Stafford, VA and many other loving cousins in VA, AZ, KY, CA, OH and the Netherlands. Also, special to Ronnie were Sheryl Turner, Jackie Turner, and James “Big Time” Turner, all of Columbus, OH;
Ronnie was a wonderful brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, and friend. To know Ronnie, was to love him. He was a kind and gentle person. He will be missed, but he is in the best place, in the care of our Heavenly Father, and for that, we are all grateful.
Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Triad Cremation & Funeral Service with final resting place at the Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle, VA.
