Susan Lee Sparrell of Greensboro died on June 12, 2022, after a brief period of declining health. She was born in 1940 in Plainfield, New Jersey, and moved with her family to Greensboro in 1947.
Susan is survived by a sister, Elizabeth Sparrell Napoliello of Greensboro, a brother, Paul Sparrell and wife, Rebecca Maust, of Greensboro, and two nephews, Alex Napoliello and wife, Stephanie, of New Jersey and David Napoliello of Florida. She is also survived by two grandnephews, Alex and Nicholas Napoliello.
Susan is preceded in death by her parents Paul B Sparrell and Thelma Seila Sparrell.
Susan was a lifelong reader, she enjoyed doing NY Times crossword puzzles, and many battles playing Scrabble with her father. She attended Women’s College (UNCG). She was employed for 30 years as a flight attendant with Eastern Airlines and 10 years as a receptionist in the Greensboro offices of Merrill Lynch. During her years working with the airlines, Susan enjoyed worldwide travel and life in New York City. She stayed in close contact with many airline friends and NYC friends over the years. In 1990, she served with the Air Force as a civilian crew member to fly military troops to the Middle East in support of Desert Storm. In addition to her love of books, great conversations, the NY Yankees, and NY Giants, Susan cherished the family dogs and her personal companion dogs, Torre and Cody.
There will be no services as she requested. Memorial donations may be made to Greensboro Public Library, Animal Rescue and Foster, or UNCG.
