Suzan Lowery (age 73) of Reidsville, NC departed this life on the morning of April 21, 2021 at Beacon Place Hospice Care in Greensboro, NC.
Suzan was born on February 17, 1948 in Bennettsville, SC, the first child of the late Yancy Lowery and Mable Locklear Lowery. She spent her formative years living in Marlboro County and graduated in 1966 from Bennettsville High School. Suzan was the eldest of four children and was always fiercely independent and adventurous.
Initially she expressed interest in becoming a Nurse; however, her creativity and talent led her to a fulfilling career as a Florist for over 40 years. She found joy in creating beauty through flowers that contributed to wonderful moments and memories for so many people. Her talent also extended into a passion for drawing and painting her own original artwork. Over the years she has proudly framed and displayed her work in her own home as well as the homes of loved ones. Family and friends would often reach out to her for ideas on decorating because of her innate ability to transform a house into a home through interior design.
Suzan was also an avid reader who found pleasure spending her time immersed in the written word. She enjoyed fiction, history, educational pieces, and current events. Her varied interests were a representation of an open mind and curiosity to gain knowledge and understanding of life and culture beyond her own. In pursuit of this, she decided to attend college to obtain a degree in History at the age of 65. During her time at Guilford Technical Community College, she not only excelled in her own studies, she also became an English tutor to students from other countries learning English as their second language. She found great joy in the time she spent with her students, and honored being able to contribute to their growth and transition on their journey to American Citizenship.
Suzan entered into matrimony twice, and spent the last few years with her final love. She believed and trusted in the Lord, and enjoyed attending church services and fellowship. She also believed in being a good person, and that giving kindness and respect is representative of who you are as a person, not about who you give it to.
Suzan is survived and deeply loved by her daughters, Cassandra (Sandi) Alford, and Shana Romedy-Gray; her grandchildren, Brittney Alford (Jamea), Chelsea Reese (Markiess), Lauren Romedy; her great grandchildren Chadrick, Aryan, and soon to be Jordan; her siblings Fayleen Creech, Linda Stone (Tommy), and William Lowery (Carolyn); her beloved companion Freddie Lee Higgins, and many other extended family members and friends. She is preceded in glory by her parents, Yancy Lowery and Mable Locklear Lowery; and her brother-in-law James Harold Creech (Fayleen). Suzan will be deeply missed by all who knew her, yet celebrated that her Victory has been won.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
